Hands Age, Too! Here’s How to Stay Wrinkle-Free

Browse by

Craving a youthful appearance is as natural as the sky is blue. For some, a youthful appearance is a trait they were fortunate enough to inherit. But for others, their youth is administered by a board-certified professional during a routine appointment. Botox and fillers are among the most popular cosmetic procedures to help achieve a younger-looking appearance, and they are only gaining speed with the growing popularity with men. Although it can be costly, some see this as a direct investment not only in their appearance, but also in their self-confidence.

It doesn’t end there

The desire for a wrinkle-free complexion has been around for centuries, and will surely continue on for centuries to come. While Botox and fillers can fix facial wrinkles, society is pushing the limits on how far they’ll go to satisfy their needs. Once they see the changes in their face, patients began looking for non-invasive options to reversing time on other parts of their body.

Botox and Fillers: What’s the difference?

If you’ve received facial injections before, you probably already know. However, for those lucky ones who were gifted with a youthful appearance, we’ll clear things up for you. Botox is injected into facial muscles to “freeze” them, in order to prevent creases or wrinkles caused by facial expressions. Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid (or similar substances) to “fill in” or add plumpness to areas that have lost their volume or smoothness.

“Handy” Approval

While Botox is exclusively injected into facial muscles, steps have been taken to “fill” in other body parts, starting with hands. Last year, with the support of the Food and Drug Administration, the use of Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine was approved for the intended use of improving the appearance of aging hands.

Much like the rest of our bodies, our hands will show signs of aging. As we get older, our skin gets thinner exposing age spots and veins. Changes in our connective tissue means less strength and elasticity. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, minor injuries could lead to serious bruising.

The Procedure

To achieve the look of youthful hands, dermatologists inject the Restylane into three different areas of the hand and then smooth the substance along the back of the hand, avoiding the fingers. The goal is to mask age-revealing features, like veins, tendons and bones.

Since this injection is a Lidocaine-filler hybrid, the procedure’s pain factor isn’t as high compared to other treatments. For example, Radiesse injections will be more painful because there isn’t an anesthetic involved. It’s also a lot thicker and needs more pressure to inject – these, among other factors, can make your experience different.

The Results

Younger looking hands! Aside from some possible swelling or bruising, we’ll let the results speak for themselves. It’s a fairly low-key procedure with results that can last up to an entire year.
