Natural looking lip enhancement: A closer look at Restylane Kysse

It’s so funny to me. Volumizing and filling the lips has been the “new thing” even with the masks ordinances. But maybe because of the masks, it’s a good time to get it done? I don’t know.

Either way, I’m excited to say that we now have a new product available called Restylane Kysse that does a really great job at enhancing the contour and defining the border of the lips.

Sure, we’ve had lip fillers available such as Vollure from Allergan, but now we have something from Galderma (the makers of Restylane) that can also get a good result.

There are a few others out there, but trust me, not all lip fillers are created equal.

There are some lip fillers I refuse to use – here’s why

Some products available for lip enhancement don’t always get good results. Mainly because they aren’t able to sit in the more superficial layers of the skin; especially that delicate, specialized skin around the lips. Instead of sitting in place, it goes into the skin around the lip – and that skin doesn’t end – so it just looks bad. It looks like you’ve had work done, which is never the look we’re going for.

Not to mention the fact that they can cause a ton of swelling, and if you try to ice it, it makes the swelling worse. Plus, you can get blue discoloration under the skin. (Mask anyone?)

For these reasons alone, there are some products that I just won’t use, and unfortunately, for a while this meant we were left with a void when it came to providing patients good options for lip enhancement.

Is Restylane Kysse the best lip filler? Quite possibly.

When it comes to Restylane Kysse, it’s been a really good product for defining the lip in a way that looks natural.

I like the way it gives projection. It doesn’t make the lip poke out, it just makes the body of the lip a little rounder, pillow-y, and fluffier without looking ducky and fake.

You might also like to know that in a study, Restylane’s manufacturers found that patients’ partners were more satisfied with Kysse over the other options, meaning they weren’t able to notice the filler as much when they kissed their partner.

It also doesn’t hurt that the swelling isn’t that bad. They barely swell at all, and you can ice it if needed.

I will say, the jury is still out on exactly how long it will last. On paper, it’s supposed to last longer than the other products, but none of the lip fillers last as long as they say because it’s an area that’s in constant motion, which makes products break down faster.

Want lip enhancement? This is likely the product for you.

There are many lip fillers out there, but there are some I’d recommend you use with caution. This boils down to the fact that you don’t want fake-looking results, and you don’t want any crazy side effects.

I’ve used Restylane Kysse many, many times on patients, and each time the lips have come out beautifully. Even on the older patients where it’s really hard to recreate those borders around the lips, I’ve been really wowed at the outcome and so have they.

So for me, this has definitely become my go-to lip filler that patients seem to love just as much as I do.
