Microneedling in Mountain Brook AL

Microneedling is a minimally invasive dermatology procedure that uses very tiny , or micro, needles to stimulate collagen growth through a controlled injury. This treatment has been proven to make your skin look both refreshed and youthful. Microneedling has been used for decades to treat common issues like facial scars. Skin Wellness Dermatology of Alabama is proud to help the Mountain Brook AL by using microneedling to address the following issues:

  • Acne Scars
  • Stretch marks
  • New facial Scars
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Skin Needling is a very effective procedure when done alone. It can treat the issues listed above easily with no worries. The greatness of microneedling though is when it is used for other treatments. By rolling the needles over the skin, it creates small holes, or channels, in the skin. Medicine can then be delivered more effectively through the skin. So basically, the needles create passageways that can later be used to pass medicine through the skin with ease.

Micro needling does come with some concerns though. It is not recommended if you fall into any of these categories:

  • Use of Accutane (isotretinoin) within 3 months
  • Have open wounds of the skin
  • Had radiation therapy to or through the skin within 1 year (in the area of treatment)
  • Recent skin infection, shingles, or HSV (herpes simplex virus) outbreak
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a history of keloid or thick scar formation
  • Have a history of poor wound healing

Why Not Try This at Home

Some people think that they can perform this procedure themselves at home. We strongly caution against that because it takes a trained professional to handle this procedure without causing significant damage. The needle has to be placed at a certain depth to be effective and this isn’t something that can be easily done by someone that has not been trained.

There are other health concerns that should be taken into consideration as well. This procedure requires a sterile environment since open wounds are involved. If done in an unclean environment, you could expose yourself to possible infection and scarring.

While microneedling is valuable and effective, it’s safest when done by a trained professional. To learn more about the microneedling procedures offered by Skin Wellness, please call our office at 205-871-7332.
